A Grungy Mermaid Look

At the weekend I played around with an eyeshadow set I’d never used before and decided to go for an edgier look.

Starting with my eye makeup, I used Makeup Addiction’s Flaming Love palette, which I’ll do a full review on in the future.

I applied the vibrant and bold shade Belize across my whole lid. It’s a really beautiful metallic turquoise and very highly pigmented.

In the outer corner I applied a small amount of the shade Amethyst, which is a gorgeous jewel toned purple. I blended the two shades together and found it created a very bold, mermaid-esque look. Depending on the lighting, I could see different shades of blue, green and purple and I think the colours in the Flaming Love palette are stunning.

As I wanted my eyeshadow to be the focal point of my makeup, I wore Benefit’s Dandelion lip gloss in the clear peachy shade Ultra Plush.

I often wear my hair down, but I decided to wear a half-up, half-down style to show off my makeup.

Moving on to my clothes. I chose a loose fitting dress that I bought quite some time ago. It’s super comfortable and has a pretty lace detailing at the top. As the weather is still pretty cold, I teamed it with black tights and a pair of black ankle boots. I bought these in Asda last year and they still often carry similar pairs.

As for jewellery, I wore a choker and a black string necklace with a gemstone heart. Again I bought both of these last year, but Primark still sell similar necklaces.

This ring is one of my absolute favourites as it’s a large stand out piece that works well with most outfits. I got this made in Malta last year by a Silversmith.

And finally on to my nail polish. I’m wearing one of Barry M’s Molten Metal Nail Paints in the shade Gold Digger.

So that’s my Grungy Mermaid look. Let me know if you liked it.

  1. You look so beautiful! Your hair looks lovely and so do your nails! The metallic shades in that eyeshadow palette are so bright and I love how you blended the blue and purple together 🙂 can’t wait to read your full review of the palette xx

  2. the blue is amazing even in a photo, i am sure its even more striking close up live. I love boots with short dresses! yours looked really stylish. i love turquoise hues and shades so this was certainly a favourite for me. wonder if you considered wearing a longer necklace with a huge stone pendant with this look?

    • Thank you. The blue was even more vibrant in real life. I don’t usually wear colours like this as I’m not sure if they suit me. But I loved the brightness and boldness of the turquoise☺ I was looking for a necklace I have, which has a moon and a stone on. I couldn’t find it though. Funny you said a long stone pendant, as I was trying to find one in the shops the other day☺ It would go nicely with a more simple outfit like this x

      • i sort of visualised you wearing it! amazing but true, certain dresses would look good with that sort of necklace, especially the one you had on in the photo.bold colours need contrast so the black was a good choice.

      • That’s funny. We both had the same vision on what necklace would look nice☺ I’ll keep looking for a pretty stone necklace, Etsy have some nice ones. I did my makeup first and I thought it would pop against a simple black outfit. Plus too many colours together can be a bit much, sometimes it’s nice to dress simply and have fun with your makeup and jewellery x
