I got this nail polish way back in July’s Birchbox and in all honestly, I wasn’t overly excited about it.

As the product is only a teeny tiny 4ml, I almost wondered why Birchbox had bothered to include this. The dull grey colour also didn’t jump out at me straight away.

A size comparison of this nail polish, next to another Nails Inc polish I received for free.

However, as I’d never tried a Latex nail polish before and it’s from Nails Inc, I still wanted to give it a try.

Starting with the product name, all of the nail polishes in this range are named after places in London. Dalston Lane is named after the area in Hackney, so as a fellow East London Girl, I approve.

The small sized bottle has really grown on me, not only does it look pretty cute, but it’s good for travel. Plus I’ve never finished a bottle of nail polish in my life, so I might stand a chance this time!

The brush length is smaller, due to the mini size of the bottle and the brush itself is quite slim, but surprisingly easy to use.

One coat of this polish is very streaky and comes off as a drab grey colour. I almost removed this from my nails as I was so unimpressed, but I persevered and I’m glad I did.

Two coats gives a smooth, even finish and the colour took on a duck egg blue mixed with grey. As this dries to a matte finish, it looks elegant and the perfect nail polish for everyday wear.

As well as loving the look of this polish, it dried incredibly quickly. Always a big plus for me.

The Latex Effect means this is meant to dry to a matte finish with a slight sheen. In my opinion, this dries down just like a regular matte polish. In my photos the lighting makes it appear to have some sheen, but in real life it doesn’t.

Where this polish lets itself down, is wear time. I painted my nails around 10pm and by 3pm the next day, they looked like this.

Later the same day, after around 24 hours wear time they’d chipped more.

The next day, I removed this polish as it’d chipped too badly.

Overall, this nail polish has surprised me, as it looks pretty and elegant on. I don’t often wear matte nail polishes, but I will more often now that I’ve tried this one. Despite the disappointing wear time, I’ll still be using this as it dries super fast and looks good on.

Let me know if you’ve tried a Latex Effect nail polish before.

  1. ugh thats such a disappointment because it’s such a good color, but if it only lasts a day- ugh!! Did you put a top coat on it? I wonder if that would help, although since it’s matte it may take away from the matte look….the struggle! haha

  2. I didn’t even know latex effect nail polishes were a thing! This colour is so pretty and looks so nice on you! The mini bottle is also cute but the fact it doesn’t take long before it chips is a shame x

    1. I’d never heard of latex polishes either. Aaw thank you. I do really like the colour and the mini bottle is very cute☺ It is a shame it doesn’t last long. I’m going to try different top coats with it. See if it helps xx

    1. I agree. Normally if a polish chips that quick, I rarely use it again. I’m only using it as it dries super fast, or it’d be in the bin lol. I hope it works better with a different top coat, as it’s such a nice colour x

      1. Have you tried regular clear polish as base and top coat? I find that normal clear polishes (Rimmel, NYC, etc) make my manis last longer – because unlike regular top coats the regular clear polishes don’t ‘shrink’ the polish at the tips.

      2. I hope it works for you. Please let me know what you think once you’ve tried it. 🙂

I have dozens of base coats, top coats and clear polishes. But most of the time I reach for simple clear polishes. I love Rimmel’s and NYC’s clear polishes the most. I have dozens of these from Poundland and Poundworld alone… 😀

  3. I recently got a chance to use nail polish and I must I am the worst at it! Not only did it feel completely uncomfortable but I kept knocking my fingers into everything and chipping it! The friend who painted the nails for me would give me this deathly stare whenever I’d go up to her to get it fixed!
