A New Year and New Resolutions

So firstly, Happy New Year! This is my first post of 2017 and I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year.

So now on to my New Year’s Resolutions. Last year I kept it simple with only two resolutions, the first was to cook more and the second was to do as many new things as possible.

This year I’m being more adventurous. I’ve got more resolutions which I hope to achieve and also some goals me and my partner have set privately together, such as visiting certain restaurants, etc. So here’s my overall goals.

1-Start to exercise more.

The most cliched one of the bunch is to work out more, in the gym or otherwise. I have to admit that I’m quite lazy and lately my lack of fitness has bothered me. My asthma and breathing is worse than usual and physically I don’t feel great.

For the first time in my life I’ve signed up to the gym and I started my exercise regime yesterday, by going for an hour’s walk through a nearby country park and forest.

2-Eat healthier.

Over the past year I’ve been a lot better at cooking myself meals rather than grabbing food on the go, however I still eat far too many treats. I have a terrible sweet tooth and a habit of reaching for naughty snacks, so it’s something that I want to work on.

3-Read one book per month.

I love reading and I have a tonne of books that are stacked up, waiting to be read. Whilst I love to read, I’ve not made the time for it. So my aim is to sit down and read one book per month, rather than just flick through magazines.

4-Watch 50 films with my partner.

I saw that Rachael did a challenge to watch a hundred films in a year with her partner, so I decided to try and do fifty with mine. We always say we don’t watch enough films or get around to seeing any, so fifty could be quite the challenge. I definitely know we could never manage a hundred!

So far we’ve watched two films this year, which is quite the accomplishment already, as we probably only saw a handful of films last year.

5-Getting into a better sleeping pattern.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a pretty unstable sleeping pattern. Very often I sit up until 4am or so, then wonder why I struggle to get up. I want to focus on getting myself into a better sleeping routine, where I go to bed earlier and try to wake up earlier each day.

6-Do 2 new things per month.

My aim is to do two new things each month, no matter how big or small. It can be trying a new takeaway or visiting a new country, as long as it’s something different.

7-Visit three new places (Countries, Cities, Towns, Villages).

Travel is one of my favourite things and last year, me and my partner focused on visiting more places in the UK where we live. This year, we just hope to see as many new places as we can, in the UK or abroad.

8-Start driving lessons.

This has been an aim of mine for quite some time. I was going to start learning to drive before I went to university, but as there was no parking near my uni, I had to use public transport.

Despite graduating years ago, I’ve still not started having regular lessons. This year I want to focus properly on learning to drive.

9-Use up what I have, before buying more.

This resolution is mostly to do with beauty items. I have a room full of beauty products, many of which are hardly used or unopened and I want to focus on trying out and using up what I already have, before buying more.

10-Take time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

When I was away in the New Forest for Christmas, I realised how I was enjoying the simplest of things. Like the way the sun set behind the trees or hearing the birds sing. I want to keep on noticing and enjoying the simple things in life, as I often don’t.

So that’s some of my resolutions for this year. Let me know what yours are.

  1. Ah it sounds to me like we have a lot of similar resolutions- to travel more is definitely my priority and to live in the moment more too! What books are you planning on reading this year?
Congrats on already starting with your exercise regime, walking is always a great way to work out because you get to see so much pretty nature too! Happy new year Dannii! Hope 2017 is amazing for you 🙂
Oh ps I forgot to say, learning to drive is also on my agenda for this year too! I’ve had lessons before but wasn’t feeling it! Have you started studying for your theory yet? Xx

  2. This is a GOOD list. I totally want to do the read at least one book a month. I used to read so much but then life got in the way and I miss reading so much. If/when you do read one you must share it with me to give me ideas on what to read. I already have the first book I want to read this month so I need to get started lol. I also love the visit 3 new places, travel is forever and always on my list. But new places is a must because I do find that I’ve redone a few places which I don’t hate but it’ll be awesome to aim for new adventures! Great list, I hope you get to achieve it all throughout 2017!!! Best of luck!!

  3. Have you thought about looking into mindfulness? Actually, it gives you tips on how to appreciate the little things to and might even help you sleep. It would be worth reading a book on it. I’m going to try the same. I admire all of your goals though. There are quite a few and I’d say they’d seem a bit daunting (at least to me). Hope you can achieve them and I hope you let us know how you get on. Oh, and maybe do a movie list. That would be fun. My uncle attempted to watch the top 100 greatest movies ever made as listed by IMDB. That way, you could definitely watch hits!

  4. congratulations on setting these goals for yourself. Hope you get to achieve them especially the travel. I think everyone can have almost the same ideas yet achieve them in a different way. It’s all about being a better person either physically or aesthetically so I really enjoyed seeing that you want to work on the body and mind too. Wishing success in each one and hope to read about the 2 new things you do each month!

  5. This was a good list. I tried to read one book every month and ended up with like seven which seems half way decent considering how busy I always seem to be. AS far as the sleeping schedule goes, always aim to go to bed a half hour earlier than you actually aim to go to bed, that way when your Netflix episode is a few minutes longer than you expected or your group chat is popping you’re not disappointed. I aim for nine on a school night so that when I go to bed at 9:30 I still have enough rest to get me through the next day. I’m not sure if that made sense lol but I hope you get the gist.

  6. Fantastic resolutions!
I really loved Rachael’s idea of watching 100 movies in a year, too! Good luck reaching 50 movies!
Sometimes “working out” or staying fit doesn’t have to mean going to the gym. If you find yourself starting to fall off the habit of working out after the first few weeks of new years, just get yourself out and walking, or even just doing some light exercise at home – any type of moving is better than nothing!

    • Aaw thanks. I loved it too, so hopefully I’ll be able to watch all the movies I’ve been meaning to this year☺ I agree. My first exercise of the month was an hour’s walk through a forest and country park. I think trying to mix it up will help me keep at it☺ xx

  7. All of these sound like great ideas and even if you only accomplish a few it will be something! I work out a ton and always feel better about myself when I do, however it helps if you find someone to be active with! I found that the motivation of knowing someone else was counting on me for their motivation my made all the difference! Good luck… 100 movies in a year, sounds impressive! Last year and the year before I made it a point to see all the Academy Award nominated films and it was quite a challenge… Can’t wait to hear more about all this as the year goes on… remember whatever the outcome it will be a success! Happy New Year!

    • Thanks Hilary. As long as I try my best and possibly achieve a few, I’ll be happy☺ My partner’s pretty similiar to me. We lack motivation. I think living in a colder city can sometimes do that, but we started by going for an hour’s walk through a nearby forest and country park☺ We’ve watched two films this year, which is an achievement already! It’ll be nice to make time for films more. Aaw thanks so much. Happy New Year to you too☺ x

  8. These all sound like great goals to work towards! I enjoyed Rachael’s 100 films in a year challenge so I’m excited to see which 50 you pick 😊 one of my aims is to progress with my driving this year too x

  9. Happy New Year to you, lovely!

This is a great set of resolutions, nicely varied and achievable. I don’t make resolutions myself, but the reading one is always at the back of my mind (so many books stacked up on my shelves and e-reader).

You’ll have to keep us updated as to how you get on 🙂
