So firstly, Happy New Year! This is my first post of 2017 and I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and New Year.
So now on to my New Year’s Resolutions. Last year I kept it simple with only two resolutions, the first was to cook more and the second was to do as many new things as possible.
This year I’m being more adventurous. I’ve got more resolutions which I hope to achieve and also some goals me and my partner have set privately together, such as visiting certain restaurants, etc. So here’s my overall goals.
1-Start to exercise more.
The most cliched one of the bunch is to work out more, in the gym or otherwise. I have to admit that I’m quite lazy and lately my lack of fitness has bothered me. My asthma and breathing is worse than usual and physically I don’t feel great.
For the first time in my life I’ve signed up to the gym and I started my exercise regime yesterday, by going for an hour’s walk through a nearby country park and forest.
Over the past year I’ve been a lot better at cooking myself meals rather than grabbing food on the go, however I still eat far too many treats. I have a terrible sweet tooth and a habit of reaching for naughty snacks, so it’s something that I want to work on.
3-Read one book per month.
I love reading and I have a tonne of books that are stacked up, waiting to be read. Whilst I love to read, I’ve not made the time for it. So my aim is to sit down and read one book per month, rather than just flick through magazines.
4-Watch 50 films with my partner.
I saw that Rachael did a challenge to watch a hundred films in a year with her partner, so I decided to try and do fifty with mine. We always say we don’t watch enough films or get around to seeing any, so fifty could be quite the challenge. I definitely know we could never manage a hundred!
So far we’ve watched two films this year, which is quite the accomplishment already, as we probably only saw a handful of films last year.
5-Getting into a better sleeping pattern.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a pretty unstable sleeping pattern. Very often I sit up until 4am or so, then wonder why I struggle to get up. I want to focus on getting myself into a better sleeping routine, where I go to bed earlier and try to wake up earlier each day.
6-Do 2 new things per month.
My aim is to do two new things each month, no matter how big or small. It can be trying a new takeaway or visiting a new country, as long as it’s something different.
7-Visit three new places (Countries, Cities, Towns, Villages).
Travel is one of my favourite things and last year, me and my partner focused on visiting more places in the UK where we live. This year, we just hope to see as many new places as we can, in the UK or abroad.
8-Start driving lessons.
This has been an aim of mine for quite some time. I was going to start learning to drive before I went to university, but as there was no parking near my uni, I had to use public transport.
Despite graduating years ago, I’ve still not started having regular lessons. This year I want to focus properly on learning to drive.
9-Use up what I have, before buying more.
This resolution is mostly to do with beauty items. I have a room full of beauty products, many of which are hardly used or unopened and I want to focus on trying out and using up what I already have, before buying more.
10-Take time to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
When I was away in the New Forest for Christmas, I realised how I was enjoying the simplest of things. Like the way the sun set behind the trees or hearing the birds sing. I want to keep on noticing and enjoying the simple things in life, as I often don’t.
So that’s some of my resolutions for this year. Let me know what yours are.
