New Year’s Resolutions-May Update

Scroll down to content

A bit of a delayed post on my May progress, but as I was on holiday and then was working on the UK elections, it’s been a busy time. So here’s a look at how I got on in May with my New Year’s Resolutions.

1-Start to exercise more

In May I didn’t go to the gym once! But I did a lot of walking door knocking and campaigning for the election and a whole load of walking on my holiday in Italy, so I still did pretty well.

2-Eat Healthier

In May I was really good with my healthy eating. I cooked at home loads, I snacked on fruit and rice cakes, the only time I ate what I wanted was when I was on holiday. Although I don’t actually feel too bad about that, as my tummy seemed to agree more with the freshly made pizza and pasta I ate in Italy.

3-Read one book per month

Before we went away, I read through the Berlitz book, Italian Lakes & Verona Pocket Guide. I did most of the planning for our trip from reading articles online, but this book helped give me a bit more information about some of the villages and villas around Lake Como.

4-Watch 50 films with my partner

Eek! So May was the first month where we didn’t watch one film! I’m not sure what happened, but the month seemed to fly-by.

5-Get into a better sleeping pattern

I’ve been a lot better at going to bed at a more reasonable time the past couple of months. I still stay up stupidly late some nights, but I’m getting better.

6-Do 2 new things per month

In May we did quite a few new things.

We had brunch at The Phene in London for the first time.

We visited Milan and Lake Como in Italy and Lugano in Switzerland. We did lots of new things whilst we was there, like see Leonardo da Vinci’s painting The Last Supper.

We saw Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral).

And visited Villa Melzi, Lake Como.

As well as loads more, which I’ll be writing about soon.

7-Visit three new places (Country, City, Town or Village)

We visited two countries in May, Italy and Switzerland. We’ve been to Italy before, but it was our first time visiting the city of Milan.

The city of Como.

We also went to Cernobbio and Brunate, which are both towns on Lake Como.

And Bellagio, which is a village.

Lastly we spent the day in the city of Lugano in Switzerland.

All of these are places we visited for the first time.

8-Start driving lessons

I haven’t started yet, but I’ve got my photos sorted so I can send off for a new provisional licence very soon!

9-Use up what I have before buying more

As I’ve been good this year at not buying for the sake of it, I had a massive splurge in the shops in Italy. I’ll be doing a haul soon on all the goodies I bought, mostly from Sephora.

10-Enjoy the simple things in life

I feel like this one stays the same most months. I try to be thankful for all I have and to practise mindfulness, but when I’m super busy I don’t focus on the small things enough.

Let me know how you’re getting on with your New Year’s Resolutions.

  1. Way to go beauty!
It is so funny because when I was in France I was not eating the best (a lot of dairy) but I felt amazing! I am not sure if it was the way the food was processed or what but I imagine it would be similiar to Italy.
I am still drooling over your pictures there and NEED to go there asap! So stunning! 💗

    1. Thanks hun! I know it’s odd. I think food in the US and UK is quite processed, so I find in countries where the food is fresh and homemade, I feel good☺ You’d should! Italy is gorgeous xx

  2. You’ve been doing so well Hun, holidays are definitely a time when you’re to eat what you want! If you can’t enjoy yourself on holiday when can you? And it sounds as though the rest of the month you were good and did loads of walking, so well done! How exciting you’ve got your photos ready to send off for your provisional, you’ll be taking lessons in no time. You’re definitely exceeding on visiting new places, you must have surpassed three by miles now! Yay!! X

    1. Thank you!😊 Haha exactly. I don’t worry when I’m on holiday, I make the most of all the good food on offer. I was good the rest of the month. I ate well and walked a tonne☺ I had a provisional years ago, but I was studying and never got round to it. This time I want to learn😊 Haha yeah I thought that. We’ve done 2 new countries alone, so I think we’ve done a lot of places. I’ll count them up at the end of the year☺ xx

      2. It’d be a crime not to indulge on Italian food in Italy😁 I’ve started to tally up how many new places now. Be interesting to see how many I visit before the end of the year xx

  3. I love reading travel guides! 🙂 We even buy books for places that we aren’t visiting immediately but plan to in the future (ie. Peru)
So incredible that you saw the painting The Last Supper IN PERSON! 😮 One day I have to do this.
How did your driving license photo turn out? I always look so angry and unfriendly in mine… since we’re not allowed to smile.
You’re doing amazingly well with your resolutions. I love how you update regularly too!

    1. I have a tonne of guides for places we’ve not been yet😊 Like you, they’re for places we hope to visit in the future😊 It is such an awesome painting. It’s huge and when you hear the story behind it and see it compared to other biblical paintings of the time, da Vinci was so ahead of his time. Really interesting to see☺ It turned out okay. I don’t look too angry😂 Thank you. I like to do a recap on my progress. Helps me see how I’m getting on too xx

  4. It’s great to see a follow-up of those resolutions we all make on the first of January. I guess many people have the motivation to think of them, but only few actually follow through or track their progress. This post also made me want to travel. And aww you guys are a cute couple 🙂

  5. I have to give you a round of applause for keeping up with your resolutions like this! Out of all the resolution posts I read in Dec/Jan….I think you may be the only one keeping up with it so congrats girlie!!! No biggie that you couldn’t add any new movies to your list but hey at least you got to add new trips and and adventures those are much more worth while and memorable in the end anyways!!! Keep it up love ❤
