Way back in May, me and my partner headed to beautiful Devon for a long weekend. Located in the South West of England, it was my partner’s first time visiting and my first in many years. So here’s a look at our time there.
Day One
Photos on the road.
As we decided to go away last minute and I was super busy, my partner sorted our accomodation. He chose the family run Heath Close B&B, which has sadly now closed.
We had a lovely cosy room in the annexe, just situated away from the main building.
After unpacking, we drove just down the road to the stunning Sandy Bay beach, surrounded by Devon’s famous cliffs.
It’s such a beautiful place that we struggled to drag ourselves away!
As it neared dinner time, we ate at the South Beach Cafe situated just above the beach.
Neither of us was expecting much, but the food was incredible! We both got the vegan Sri Lankan curry and I still dream of it even now.
After dinner we both started to feel tired from all the travelling, so we had a cosy night in our annexe room, ready for our first full day in Devon.
Day Two
Our day started with breakfast in the B&B and some pretty gloomy weather!
We drove to Dartmoor National Park, an area of natural beauty known for it’s craggy landscapes, tors (rock formations), rivers and forest areas.
We started at Haytor Rocks, which was quite the challenge to climb given the fog, wind and rain that started battering us as we started our ascent.
Still, the climb felt exhilarating and refreshing.
We jumped back in the car to dry off and saw wild horses roaming around.
Then we drove around and stumbled upon the most amazing place; Becky Falls.
You pay a small fee to enter this lovely area full of scenic walks, climbs and a waterfall.
We started with the Red Trail, where it’s a moderately difficult walk with a waterfall.
Then once we’d completed that and felt a bit braver, we took the Purple Trail which is the hardest.
I don’t think we could have found a more beautiful spot to spend our afternoon. The weather was fully on our side (unlike in the morning) and Becky Falls reminded us of the gorgeous Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia.
Lush, green and not too crowded, I’d a million per cent recommend a visit if you’re in Devon.
After all our rock climbing and walking, we treated ourselves to a slice of vegan Devils Food Cake in the on-site cafe.
Following a day of adventure, we stopped off at a supermarket for supplies then drove to Sandy Bay beach for a barbeque!
A meat free bbq on the beach and chips from a local shop.
We enjoyed a feast on the beach at sunset and sat soaking up the sun until it fully went down.
As it started to get dark, we retreated to our B&B ready for our last day in the West Country.
Day Three
Once we’d checked out of our B&B, we had a busy day visiting lots of towns and villages.
We started in Exmouth.
Moved on to Sidmouth.
Then spent some time in scenic Lyme Regis in Dorset.
We continued to head home towards London, but on our way we stopped for dinner at Lakaz Maman in Southampton.
Despite the food looking enticing and colourful, I found it all a bit bland and just pretty average tasting.
Feeling full, we drove the rest of the way home after a great weekend away.
What a gorgeous place! That beach is stunning! And how cool to see wild horses! I loved that you guys had a meat free barbecue! SO much fun! I am glad you guys had a great weekend away! ❤
