Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh is a very important exhibition containing 150 objects from the King’s tomb, 60 of which have never left Egypt before.
Outside of Egypt for the final time before taking place in a permanent exhibition at the new Grand Egyptian Museum; this is your chance to see Tutankhamun’s treasures.
Tickets are on the pricier side of things, but it’s worth it to see such wonders. It’s also a very sought after and busy exhibition, so book tickets in advance if you want to visit and do expect queues and crowds.
On to some of the sights you can see:
A stunning gold fan.
In Tutankhamun’s time ostrich feathers made up this elaborate fan but they have since rotted away. This along with all of the items in the King’s tomb are beautifully decorated and preserved.
Decorative shields; due to the open design these were obviously never used in battle.
Tutankhamun’s chair that was made for him as a child. He became King at just nine years of age and this chair is so beautifully crafted it looks brand new.
This bed wasn’t used by the King during his life, but his body was laid on the golf leaf covered bed after he passed away.
Gold leaf covered statues of Tutankhamun in different poses, such as riding a panther and hunting hippos. Many scenes depict him having power over everything including nature to show he was in control and powerful.
Other stunning ornaments in his tomb.
Amulets.
Canopic Jars in which one of Tutankhamun’s organs was stored.
And finally, the most stunning item in the whole collection.
This stunningly designed statue is one of two that stood over his buurial chamber. As with a lot of other items found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, the statue is covered in gold leaf. Black is used to show the fertility and life of the river Nile.
This exhibition runs until May 2020.
ahhh! I would love to see this exhibit!
